Update (2017-02-12) on the ratification of current European organic regulations:
In January of 2017 the Icelandic Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries announced the decision to proceed towards full ratification of the current EU regulations on organic production, thus withdrawing requests for special adaptation for Icelandic conditions.
Iceland and Norway will now work within the EEA Joint Commission on the adoption of EU regulations 834/2007, 889/2008, 1235/2008 and subsequent amendments into the EEA agreement and the respective national legislation. Once this process is completed, which is expected to be in a few months, organic certification in Iceland will be compliant with the EU regulations on organic agricultural production and labelling.
By then, Tún is expected to have permission to authorize the use of the EU organic logo and to be listed again in the official EU registry of approved certification bodies for organic production. In the meantime, Tún continues to comply with Icelandic regulation 74/2002 which in turn complies with EU Regulation 2092/91.
